Three Schedules to Choose:
Job hunting requires effort and a time commitment, likely equivalent to what you would spend on full-time employment. If you are not in a hurry, tired, or need time to spend with family (let’s say during the Holiday Season), you can, of course, manage to keep job hunting going at a slower pace.
Below is a weekly schedule with the key activities you must incorporate to remain “in the game.” Doing all the exercises daily would be equivalent to 8-10 hours of work.
Alternatively, there are two extra options that allow you to do your job search effectively at a lighter pace.
Schedule 1 - Full-Time Optimized Job Search
If you are in a hurry to get your next job and have the time, energy, and mindset to get into this full-time routine, it will likely be equivalent to what you were spending in full-time employment.
Below is a weekly schedule with the key activities you must incorporate to remain “in the game.” Doing all the exercises daily would equal 8 hours of work per day.
If you start to feel depleted, take one day off. However, keeping a routine is vital, and if it incorporates all the aspects below, it will likely give you the fastest results.
Schedule 2 - Part-Time Optimized Job Search
You can certainly job search part-time. If you are not in a hurry, tired, or need time to spend with family (let’s say during the Holiday Season), you can, of course, manage to keep job hunting going at a slower pace. Keeping it at a slower pace is preferable to stopping altogether.
The secret is to do the activities at the day and time that add the most value to your strategy. In the example below, I’m showing you how a part-time weekly schedule can look. I have chosen the days for each activity to maximize your time and effort. For example, it’s better to be on LinkedIn earlier in the week than later.
Schedule 3 - Light & Optimized Job Search
You could also be looking for work while working, taking care of your kids, or fulfilling any other commitment. That requires you to be really smart with your time and incorporate job hunting without affecting your other obligations, responsibilities, or holidays!
Below is an example of what that could look like for you. In this sample below, I again tried to maximize the time you would spend job hunting.
The trick is to combine tasks. For example, listen to The Job Hunting Podcast (your career readiness task for the week) while exercising. Then, do your LinkedIn activity on a Wednesday (the best day to be active on LinkedIn), using that time on the platform to do a quick search for jobs.
Optimized Job Search Checklist
Plan the next 1-2 months, and do a checklist of everything you need to optimize your job search.
